Local Missions
Maureen Lloyd, Elder
Being involved in local missions is a very rewarding experience for those who donate their time to volunteer with one or more of the organizations we support. Here are the organizations that we have been involved with for the past year:
March of Dimes Holiday Magic Around the World Celebrity Chef’s Auction - This festive event was held at the Holiday Inn. The purpose is to raise money for research and to help save babies. Members of our choir sang at the event for the fourth year and many members of our congregation came to support the cause and enjoy the festivities.
Walk for Babies - Our church was involved this year! We set up a Spirit Station under a tent. We served snacks and cool drinks and gave walkers a gift displaying the church logo. It was a lot of fun and we plan to do it again next year. We can always use walkers, and if you would like to be more involved you can help with the Spirit Station. You will meet many wonderful people who come out for the five-mile walk to support the March of Dimes.
Pregnancy Crisis Center - When called upon, we attend functions to raise money for the Pregnancy Crisis Center. We also contribute funds to the organization.
Christian Service Center - Many people from our church volunteer at the Christian Service Center. This organization feeds and clothes the homeless, prays with those who need help and provides guidance and assistance in their time of need. When their freezer broke down, FPC contributed funds to purchase a new one. The Festival of Choirs, an event sponsored by the Christian Service Center was held here, and many choirs participated.
Catholic Charities - We worked with Catholic Charities as they provided support to victims of a tornado that devastated several areas in our city. Last November, we assisted with Thanksgiving Baskets that were delivered to needy families. A check was given to buy turkeys for families who received baskets.
American Cancer Society Relay For Life - Several church members participated in the relay, some of whom are cancer survivors. This year's Relay for Life is just around the corner, and we hope to have a wonderful turnout!
Habitat For Humanity - Habitat needs help with the construction of their third home. Those in our congregation who enjoy building projects would just love this opportunity.
Haven Hospice - We may all have a reason to be involved in this wonderful organization. It is a place where loved ones who are terminally ill are made comfortable and cared for with kindness and compassion. Hospice is always in need of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, we can put you in contact with someone
from the organization of your choice. Call 752-0670 to get involved!
