Local Ministries

Backpack Ministry:

We started our local backpack ministry with Melrose Park Elementary around 2009 . Since then other area churches have taken part in this ministry as well, within their own manner. At this time we help feed around 30 kids from that elementary school on a weekly basis during the school year. Our public school system has a program to help feed them during the summer months.

Where did this program originate?

The program originated in Kentucky when a school nurse realized children were coming to school hungry on Monday morning due to a lack of food security at home. Children who are hungry are not ready to learn. Schools can offer breakfast and lunch during the week but often children have little to eat over the weekends. She started sending bags of food for the weekends via school bus drivers.

Feed my Lambs:
(Mission Dinners)

Feed my Lambs is a ministry of St. James Episcopal Church. Our church provides meals on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month.

Blessing Box:

The FPCLC Blessing Box is located in front of the church office for local people in need.

This is a self-serve ministry for our local community. Items such as canned goods (pop tops preferred), prepackaged  food and snack items, peanut butter, and personal hygiene items are gladly accepted. You may place the donated items in the Blessing Box yourself or if you are unable to put it in the box we have baskets on the stage in the Fellowship Hall for Blessing Box donations.
