Troop 9085 Update

The summer has been busy for the young ladies of Troop 9085. In June, we travelled to north Georgia to attend Camp Woodruff. Each girl that attended earned a variety of merit badges and enjoyed an off-site adventure of either whitewater rafting or horseback riding (some did both). Our leaders took the opportunity to participate in leadership training. The cicadas were in full force, and we listened to their songs all day long. We had a lot of fun!

In July, the troop participated in the Young Eagles program at Cannon Creek Airpark and learned about aviation. The used the flight simulator and rode in the airplanes. Some even got to fly the plane!

At the end of July, the troop spent a wonderful weekend at Ocean Pond Campground in the Osceola National Forest. They spent hours playing in the lake, kayaking, and learning water rescue. During campouts, the scouts cook their own food from a menu that they planned and purchased for the trip.

In September, the troop celebrated their quarterly Court of Honor to award the achievements of these scouts. This quarter we held our ceremony at Wellborn Community Park and included a family 5K walk/run and picnic. Our youngest scout was awarded her Arrow of Light for completing Cub Scouts last May; after completing the cross-over ceremony, we also awarded her with Scout rank. She has worked very hard this summer! Our newest scout also worked very hard this summer and received her Scout rank. Our founding member scout was awarded her Star rank; she will begin working on planning her Eagle project this fall. Other awards included merit badges and service pins. Special thank you to Jim Parker for finding this wonderful park.
